MASTER SERGEANT JAMES B. FLEMING
Master Sergeant James B. Fleming is a Personnel Craftsman, currently deployed on a 365-day In Lieu of Forces tasking. His current assignment is to the Bagram Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) which is responsible for providing security, extending the reach of the Afghan government and reconstruction efforts in two Afghan Provinces. His current duties include providing personnel, administrative, financial, and MWR support to the only joint/combined PRT in the Operation Enduring Freedom Theater.

He is 37 years old. Sergeant Fleming was born at Vandenburg Air Force Base, California on 26 April 1970. He graduated from Judson High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1988. After high school, he was locally employed until entering Basic Military Training in April 1989. Upon graduation from BMT he attended the Personal Affairs Specialist course at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. Upon completion of technical training he was assigned to the 55th Mission Support Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. There he served as an Awards and Decorations Clerk, Survivor Benefit Plan Counselor, Casualty Assistance Representative, and Retirements Clerk. In February 1991, Sergeant Fleming was deployed as part of a PERSCO “A” Team to various locations throughout Europe and Southwest Asia in support of Operation DESERT STORM. He served an additional tour in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH in 1993 as a Combat Personnel Computer System operator. In May 1994, he was reassigned to the 710th Mission Support Squadron, Royal Air Force Alconbury, United Kingdom as a Customer Service Representative. After the closure of RAF Alconbury, he was reassigned to the new 423rd Air Base Squadron. While there, he served as the NCOIC, Commander’s Support Staff. Sergeant Fleming was then selected for a special duty assignment at the Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base. Sergeant Fleming performed duties as a Staff Duty NCO in the Air Force’s Casualty Operations Center, responding to a multitude of incidents involving deceased and injured personnel. After his tour at AFPC, he was selected for another special duty at Headquarters Nineteenth Air Force, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. While assigned there he managed all aspects of the Officer Promotion System for the Commander, 19th Air Force. In addition, he managed the AETC HAWK list for the 19th Air Force Commander. He also managed the EPR, OPR, Promotion Recommendation Form, for Headquarters personnel and subordinate Wings. In 2003, Sergeant Fleming was selected to perform duties as a Military Training Leader. During his tour he led the 343rd’ Training Squadron’s Military Training Flight to an “EXCELLENT” rating during an Operational readiness Inspection in 2004 and was selected as an “Outstanding Performer” by the Inspector General’s Team. In February 2005, he was hand picked to lead the 37th Training Group’s most challenging airmen as the Flight Chief, Transition Flight. He supervised a staff of 7 NCOs and Petty Officers who provided 24-hour supervision over 20-40 airmen who were pending Court Martial or Misconduct Discharges. Most recently Sergeant Fleming was assigned to the Directorate of Personnel, Headquarters Air Intelligence Agency, Lackland Air Force Base. Sergeant Fleming was the NCOIC, Formal Training and Retraining Programs. He was responsible for the oversight and distribution of over 700 training allocations within Air Intelligence Agency. Additionally, he managed the Agency’s retraining program and ensured a smooth transition to the new Retraining Process via the Air Force Personnel Center’s Contact Center.

He is married to the former Melisa Leigh Newport and they have three children, Amanda, Tiffany, and James.
